Description

The Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin and Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas (DCMCCT) are seeking experienced pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists to join the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease.

Candidates will possess experience in caring for children with complex congenital and acquired heart disease and adults with congenital heart disease. Primary responsibilities will include oversight and provision of direct care to patients prior to, during, and after cardiac surgery. Other responsibilities include developing and implementing care protocols, overseeing the QI registries pertinent to Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia and to oversee education, quality assurance and ongoing performance improvement initiatives. Candidates will also participate in coordinated outreach efforts for the Center.

A successful candidate will have an appointment within the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at Dell Medical School, and regular participation in educational activities with medical students and residents will be expected. Opportunities for collaboration with medical and adjunct specialties will be encouraged to allow for the pursuit of innovative program development and clinical research initiatives.

Candidates will be board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in Anesthesia and Pediatric Anesthesia with additional formal training in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia.

Dell Medical School, the first new medical school to be built at a tier one research university in nearly 50 years, welcomed its inaugural class in 2016. The school is committed to redesigning academic medicine and revolutionizing how people get and stay healthy, by educating leaders, developing new models of care, and advancing innovation from health products to health care delivery.

DCMCCT, a member of Ascension Texas and the Seton Healthcare Family, is a tertiary children's hospital with 248-beds serving 46-counties that includes 24 pediatric critical care beds and 22 pediatric intermediate care beds in a mixed PICU/PCICU unit and a robust ECMO program. There are approximately 1,800 admissions to the ICU annually. It is the only freestanding pediatric facility in the region with a level 1 pediatric trauma center, a level 4 epilepsy center, and a level 4 neonatal intensive care unit.

Austin has been designated by US News & World Report as one of the top ten "Best Places to Live" for several years. This growing metropolis is considered "the live music capital of the world," a high-tech growth hub, and home to one of the largest state universities in the country.
